Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives. “When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep.’Why are you sleeping?’ he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” (Luke 22:46). As with the disciples, so often it is with us that when we most need to “call for fire,” we sleep. Distractions impair our focus; we fail to pray and wonder why unexpected events overwhelm us. Disciples of Jesus today must take note of societal trends, know government actions, and constantly test our thoughts and actions by the barometer of the Bible. So, today, in your personal “Garden of Olives,” what would Jesus say to you? Get up and pray!
